Teaching Policy Analysis and Public Management in Today�s Classroom
Syllabi, Materials, Technology, and Cross-National Settings



Deadline: The deadline for abstract submissions is May 31, 2011 (Closed).


The Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM), in association with the University of Maryland School of Public Policy, plans to hold a one-day workshop on teaching methods on Wednesday, November 2, 2011. This is the day before the beginning of APPAM�s Fall Meeting, which will be held in Washington, D.C., from November 3�5. (Find more information about the APPAM conference here.)

Sandra Archibald, Dean, Evans School of Public Affairs, and president-elect, APPAM, will open the workshop with a talk on: �The Globalization of Public Policy Education.� The workshop chair will be Doug Besharov, Maryland School of Public Policy.

For presentations at the workshop, we are soliciting abstracts (and, as appropriate, syllabi and teaching materials), on the following topics:
  • Teaching policy analysis
  • Teaching program evaluation and cost-benefit analysis
  • Teaching statistics and microeconomics
  • Teaching public management
  • Using technology in the classroom
  • Using technology outside the classroom
  • Teaching in cross-national settings

The abstracts should be no longer than 500 words in length, and should be accompanied by relevant syllabi and teaching materials. We additionally invite recommended models of policy analyses, either actual or especially prepared for teaching or other purposes.
