“Between Neoliberal and Ethicized welfare: Recent Developments of Minimum Income Schemes in Czechia”
Lucie Trlifajová, Charles University
Similar to other EU countries, the changes in the Czech minimum income scheme in the past decades (particularly during the Great Recession) had been shaped by the approaches to the welfare that are often described as neoliberal – austerity, increased conditionality and control of the recipients of support, workfarist logic. This contribution aims to show how the logic of neoliberal reforms intersects with an image of the Roma as the main beneficiaries of the support, further delegitimizing and diminishing its protective function.
