We have prepared a number of optional side trips and excursions for conference participants that can be reserved via the Four Seasons Travel Agency.

TOUR OF ST. PETERSBURG

The tour will take place from June 30, 2011 to July 6, 2011 after the conference has completed. You have the option of returning to Moscow or flying home directly from St. Petersburg.

Pricing: TOTAL COST PER GUEST for 4 nights and 5 days (in roubles) in a single room and PER ROOM in a double room, INCLUSIVE THE TOUR PROGRAM
Occupancy: Only one person can occupy a single room and only 2 persons can occupy a double room. For example, 6 people can either occupy 6 singles or 3 doubles.
Number of people: The price differences relate to the cost of the tour. The more people, the cheaper the overall price.

Train Tickets: Train tickets cannot be purchased earlier than 45 days before the start of the journey.

1. Sightseeing tour about Moscow

Sightseeing tour about Moscow will give you an idea of how big and beautiful Moscow is. The tour includes a trip about the main streets and squares of Moscow, visiting the Red Square and St. Basil's Cathedral, Moscow Kremlin, Church of Christ, the Novodevichy Covent, a walk about the Alexander's Garden and the Sofia Embankment, the memorial complex on the Mount Poklonnaya and the viewing point on the Sparrow Hills, from where you'll see magnificent views of Moscow.

2. The Kremlin and Cathedrals

The Moscow Kremlin is a unique architectural ensemble. It is famous for the ancient Cathedral Square and its churches: Annunciation Cathedral, Assumption Cathedral, where Russian tsars and emperors were crowned, Archangel Cathedral, the burial place of the Grand Dukes, the Patriarch's Palace and the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great. Many heard of the famous artifacts like the Tsar Cannon and the Tsar Bell, which are symbols of Moscow. The Arsenal, a monument of architecture of Peter the Great time, and the Senate can be seen in the Senate Square. The Palace Square is famous for the Grand Kremlin Palace, which was the residence of the Russian tsars and emperors and is currently the residence of the President of Russia.

3. The Armoury Chamber

The Armoury Chamber, a treasure house, is a part of the Grand Kremlin Palace’s complex. It is situated in the building constructed in 1851. The museum collections consisted of the precious items that had been preserved for centuries in the tsars’ treasury and the Patriarch’s vestry. The museum is named after one of the oldest Kremlin’s treasury stores. The highest artistic level and particular historical and cultural value of the exhibits have made the State Armoury of the Moscow Kremlin a world-wide known museum.

The Armoury Chamber houses a unique collection of ancient state regalia, ceremonial tsar’s vestments and coronation dresses, vestments of the Russian Orthodox Church hierarchs, the largest collection of gold and silverware by Russian craftsmen, West European artistic silver, ceremonial weapons and arms, carriages and horse ceremonial harness.

5. Tretiakov Gallery

The world-famous rich collection of Russian paintings, drawings and sculpture was founded in 1856 by the Moscow merchant Pavel Tretyakov. Easily recognizable building in the picture of Lavrushinsky Lane was built in 1902-1904 upon the project of the famous Vyatka painter Victor Vasnetsov.

Museum expositions represent all periods of the Russian art for more than a thousand years, beginning from the 11th century to the present day. During the Soviet times the museum collection was considerably enlarged and currently there are more than 125,000 various items in the stock of the gallery.

6. Kolomenskoye

This old mansion, situated in the outskirts of Moscow, was the residence of the Russian princes and tsars. In the 16th century Kolomna was a favourite country estate of Grand Prince Vasily III, and then his son - Ivan the Terrible. The oldest building in the estate is a unique Church of the Ascension, built in 1532, and the Church of the Beheading of John the Baptist was the prototype of the 16th century St. Basil's Cathedral in the Red Square.

7. Moscow Metro

The first metro line was opened in Moscow in 1935 and connected 13 stations. Currently, the Moscow Metro has more than 150 stations and is rightly considered the most beautiful in the world. Many stations are real palaces with marble columns, impressive chandeliers, sculptures, mosaics, stained glass, etc., although, the metro is still the major way of transportation in the city. Tour of the Moscow Metro is one of the most unusual ones. During the tour you will see the best-known stations. Some of them look like real castles and palaces and you will be amazed by the beauty and variety of marble, bright mosaics and whimsical lamps. Numerous bronze and granite statues tell of the deeds of the Soviet people.
